The" La Gorda " from Pinol is our aged Canadian Sitka Spruce/ Cocobolo Rosewood powerhouse  Dreadnought, a true cannon. We upped this with an incredible striking set of red Cocobolo. Incredibly big and open with great response from the deep bass to crisp mids and highs. Cocobolo, which is a Rosewood is considered a great substitute to Brazilian Rosewood, and at a better price ,some might think it's superior. The great debate of best builds and tonewoods are alive and well. Try this one and you will agree either way that this is one amazing guitar.

Let's start by talking about extras this lovely guitar has. If you look towards the upper-bout , you can see a soundport that lets the player have control over any out-of-tune keys and quickly allows you to adjust accordingly. We can also notice a one piece arm from the joint all the way up to the headstock. Sandwiched between Cocobolo Rosewood and maple, gives this arm a solid structure that will allow the string vibrations to flow uninterrupted down to the body. Our acoustic guitars are joined with a dovetail and this one is not an exception. We finished our joint block with dimensions that will allow the arm a little more structural strength for a longer life.

As we look at the three-piece back, we can see a wedge of African Ebony to give it strength and a unique, one -of-a-kind look. Our sides and back pieces are from the same log, allowing an equal distribution of body strength and color distribution. Our Herringbone is striking and many small shops opt out of this complex job. As you can observe, it has herringbone purfling all over the instrument, sandwiched between a rare cypress binding. This job usually takes about 35 hours to complete.

Our tailpiece, fretboard, bridge and head plate all come from the same tree as well. African Ebony has become a rare find nowadays, and finishing our instruments with the most sought after tone wood is a treat for our customers. We finished the inside with a regular x-bracing pattern with a non-scalloped finish, and also made small incisions to the bracing to allow a lighter bracing system, but making sure the strength was not compromised. We hand-voiced and tap-toned each instrument and carved accordingly, this process takes our well-trained luthiers an additional 30 hours to complete. This guitar is perfect for a studio or the everyday hustle.

One of the most important parts for a sweet playing instrument in our opinion here at Pinol is the choice of a well playing top and the finishing touches of a professional set-up. Our Tops come from a small town in Canada, where the owner cherry-picks and quarter saws each individual log. He assures me that every top he sends to our shop is at least 500 years old, but some might be even older than 1000 years. Our Cedar and Spruce is among the best in the tone wood market, and putting these tops on our instruments allows our customers to hear the true sweetness of our finished products.

A professional set-up is as important as a well-built instrument, and here at our shop we dedicate an additional 25 hours to this complex science. Adjusting the two-way truss rod , choosing the correct size of frets, dressing the frets and adjusting for a low profile string positioning can be a true test of knowledge left only to an experienced luthier. Before our instruments are shipped, we communicate with the owners on their personalized set-up position, allowing a personalized professional set-up at the time of arrival. Remember, our instruments take around 200 hours from inception to the final product.
